Making A Christmas Tree
06:21
|
|||
Christmas tree, Christrams tree
I’ve always wanted my own Christmas tree
It was on my list, but I’m Jewish
So I never got to have a Christmas tree
But this year, for the very first time
I’m gonna have my own Christmas tree
Me and my boyfriend’s teenaged daughter making a Christmas tree
She is being really cool about the fact that I am
Abnormally excited
About a $20 Christmas tree
That we bought from spotlight
I didn’t know you that you could buy a Christmas tree
From spotlight
But now that I think about it
It’s obvious that they would sell things like that
Especially this time of year
Me and my boyfriend’s teenaged daughter making a Christmas tree
I keep making jokes about how I don’t know what things are called
You know because I’m Jewish
And we never had a Christmas tree
So I don’t know what things are called
But honestly I didn’t know that the things you hang from Christmas trees
Are called baubles
But now that I think about it
It’s obvious that they'd be called something like that
But I always thought they were called Christmas balls
And I think me and my boyfriend’s teenaged daughter
Are getting closer it’s true
Cause sometimes I show her videos that I find funny
To see if she finds them funny too
But then I remember that I don’t have my finger on the pulse
Of what gen z finds funny
But even if the humour has aged unkindly
She still watches the whole video and laughs politely
Me and my boyfriend’s teenaged daughter making a Christmas tree
My boyfriend filmed a timelapse video of us making it
So I showed my family
The video of my new Christmas tree
I thought they’d find it interesting
But I didn’t know that my mother doesn’t give a shit about Christmas trees
From spotlight
But now that I think about it
It’s obvious that she doesn’t like anything about Christmas
Except for maybe watching Home Alone
And my mum said maybe Christmas trees are more exciting when you’ve got little kids
And I said mum there’s no way that me and my boyfriend are ever having kids
And my mum said did I say anything about you and your boyfriend having kids?
And I said, mum it’s implied in the way you said it I know what you meant
And my mum said Jude you're putting words into my mouth I never said that
If you think that you don’t want to have kids well then I guess that’s your choice
And I said mum I know it’s hard for you to understand how I could be fulfilled without kids
But I’ve thought about it a lot for a long time and this is the right decision for me
And my mum said Jude I understand I felt the same way when I was your age
And I do, I believe you, I believe that you THINK that this is what you want to do
I’m just worried that in the future you’ll regret your decision that you never had kids
Also could you please not put this conversation into your Christmas song….
Me and my boyfriend’s teenaged daughter making a Christmas tree
Everything seems so simple when you are stringing lights
Though they are hard to untangle
But once you get them on the Christmas tree
They look fucking magical
It was so much fun to
Make a Christmas tree
With my boyfriend’s teenaged daughter
I just feel lucky to know her
And I would do anything to help her out
To clarify I’m not her step mum
Her mum and dad
Make an awesome parenting team
But I had a really good time making a Christmas tree
Making a Christmas tree
Making a Christmas tree with my boyfriend's teenaged daughter

Is It Chanukah?
05:22
|
|||
Every year between
November the first and December 19
One of my more considerate gentile friends messages me
And says…
Happy Chanukah, is it Chanukah?
I never know cause 8 days seems quite long
Also is it Hanukah or Chanukah?
I don’t know how to spell it sorry if I spelt it wrong
Chanukah, how do you spell it in English, no one knows
Every year between November the 10th and December 23
I read a message from a considerate gentile friend and then I say back to them
Oh that’s right it's Chanukah thank you for reminding me
I haven’t quite been keeping up with Torah scroll
But now I know it’s Chanukah I’m gonna go out and get myself a delicious jelly roll
Jelly roll, Chanukah! Jam donut, chocolate coins,
dreidel game, candles… I think that’s pretty much it
And you’re probably wondering why
We light 8 candles for 8 nights
And there’s a simple explanation for all that we do
Every tradition that exists for a Jew
Is to...
Remember that things were bad
Remember how we were sad
NEVER FORGET that things were bad
But there not quite as bad as they were before
At least for now
But we’re celebrating that things aren’t bad anymore
But it’s likely we’ll be sad again
So let’s keep having fun, but just keep in mind at any moment everything could easily TURN TO SHIT
Every year between September the 5th and April 16
I think about all the Sunday school teachers who I was a pain in the ass to, and I say…
Happy Chanukah, this is Chanukah the festival of forgiving all sins
Ok, I know that’s not true, I’ll try to be a better jew
I’ll start by only eating fish with scales and fins
Scales and fins, I think that’s what makes a fish kosher
But I’m not quite sure
And this is the
SEVENTH
Most important jewish holiday of the year
Maybe
It’s not clear
Cause Rabbi’s disagree with each other all the time
And I can’t read minds
But one thing we can agree on is that we must all...
Remember that things were bad
Remember how we were sad
NEVER FORGET
And everything you eat represents an emotion you’re supposed to feel
And you’re supposed to feel sad
Every year it’s said
Precisely on the 25th of Kislev
All your jewish friends around the world light the first candle and they say...
Happy Chanukah, happy Chanukah
I ask my inner-cynic to step aside
Maybe there is something to this celebration
People having hope and lighting lights
I don’t know what I believe
I don’t think that it matters
All that matters is how you live your life
So when your life is filled with darkness
Let me light this candle just for you
And let it burn for more than 8 long nights!
And...
Remember when we were glad?
Remember the joy we had?
NEVER FORGET that things aren’t always bad
So you might as well enjoy every moment that
Life is good
(Sometimes things can get bad, sometimes things get real sad
Sometimes things are bad, you might feel quite sad)
(It's not your fault you don't know how to be a happy person, you can blame it on your parent's trauma)

This song was improvised, so your guess as to what the lyrics are is as good as mine

The Christmas Slug
02:31
|
|||
Well...
Santa’s got his sleigh and all his reindeer
And he’s the reason all the presents came here
He eats his milk and cookies then he’s out the door
But who is gonna clean these crumbs off the floor?
Christmas slug!
Slithering down the chimney
He’s gonna eat all the crumbs that santa left
Chocolate chip
Is his favourite on Christmas
Christmas slug!
Slightering down the hallway
He’s gonna make all your Christmas dreams come true
Christmas slug
He loves eating crumbs on Christmas
Before the season ends
He’s gonna be your best friend
And yes he might be slow
And does he even know it’s Christmas
Christmas slug!
Slithering through the nighttime
He doesn’t care if you’ve been good or bad
And everywhere he goes
He leaves a sparkly trail that glows
Just like Christmas snow
And though he might be small
He can still deck the halls
And hang some Christmas balls
You never have to fear, around this time of year
Cause you know the Christmas slug is here
He's the Christmas slug
The Christmas slug
He's the Christmas slug
He's the Christmas slug

O Chanukah O Chanukah
Let's light the menora
Let's have a party
We'll all dance the Hora
Gather round the table we'll give you a treat
Dreidels to play with and latkes to eat
And while we are singing
The candles are burning low
One for each night
They shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago
One for each night
They shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago
